What random place could I find to take pictures at? Why not visit Florida’s fourth-largest freshwater lake, Lake Apopka. Turns out there was a little gem there; an 11-mile driving trail along the 20,000-acre north shore of the lake. For the more active type, there is also the Lake Apopka Loop Trail, which covers more than 20 miles. One of these days I’m going to go back and take the walking trail to see what other beauties I missed.
Now … it says it’s a hardtop road on VisitFlorida’s website, but it is semi hard and DUSTY. Very very dusty. Plan on getting a good carwash afterword’s, and if you are like me and get out of the car every 20 feet to take another picture, you will need to clean the inside as well. I wore flip-flops … but I will definitely be wearing tennis shoes next time. If you are thinking about heading there, they are only open on the weekends and Federal holidays. Check out the St. Johns River Water Management District website for schedule and more information.
For our Bird lovers, this is a great place to go. It is one of the top birding areas in the state of Florida.
I hope you enjoy the photos. If there are any great spots in Central Florida that you think are worth checking out, message me on my Contact page. Thank you!
